The message preview is a texting feature of any Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus designed to pop up on top of anything, on your Home screen, under the Notification bar, or even on the Lock screen, whenever you receive a message.
If the popup would tell you just that it would be all right, but it does a lot more – it gives you a short preview of that message and specifically names the sender. Also, it lets you to directly access the messaging app, on that specific message thread, and type a reply. The latter is useful, but the first two are kind of problematic and if you’re reading this article, you’ve probably convinced yourself of it.
On the plus side, it’s an extra feature, it gives you fast access and lets you assess whether you need to reply that message right away or if it can wait.
On the downside, it can raise serious privacy concerns and many users complain that they don’t want other people sitting around them to be able to see the content of their messages even before they get to open it!
To turn off the Message Preview feature on Galaxy S9/S9 Plus:
- Navigate to Settings, Applications;
- Select Messages;
- Tap on Notifications;
- Identify the Preview Message section with its two options, Status Bar and Lock Screen;
- Uncheck the boxes associated to any of these two or to both of them.
Depending on what you have unchecked, from now on you may only be getting previews in the Status Bar, on the Lock Screen alone or in none of these places.
But that’s it, the process is as simple as unchecking two boxes. Of course, you will be able to return to the Preview Message option anytime you want and tick the boxes again, according to your preferences.
However, from now on, your private messages will remain private and that’s a great thing about your Samsung Galaxy S9 or Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus – you know how to turn off the message previews!
